Phu Quoc Island in Vietnam's Kien Giang Province, in the Gulf of Thailand, is 28 miles west of Ha Tien and 218 miles west of Ho Chi Minh City and one hour by plane. Phu Quoc is of 150 km coastline, and about the same size as Singapore, with a population of 75,000.

The government has a decision to develop Phu Quoc Island to be a high-ranking traveling island which is able to welcome three million tourists in the year 2020. In addition, the government has approved to lay down casino activity as a policy in Phu Quoc Island, according to People’s Committee of Kien Giang Province, President Bui Ngoc Suong, Saigontimeonline 05/02/2008. Last year, some of primary constructions, infrastructure has been started such as An Thoi International Seaport, main road-system Duong Dong-Cua Can. As estimated, An To International Airport, an infrastructure project with total investment capital around 5,000 billion VND will be taken off by the end of the year.
